Hi Jim,
It sounds like you are doing everything you can to prevent Lyme in your dog. Do dogs get a reaction to the vaccine that makes them seem like they have the virus?

As far as people...use deet spray on your clothes, wear long sleeves and try to avoid the woods and brush piles. There's no way you can completely protect yourself against Lyme. Those ticks are just too small and can be carried on too many things, like feral cats and field mice.

Hello everyone, I am a little confused about Lyme Tick Disease as to how easily can I contract the disease from my dog? We had our Chessadore (1/2 chocolate lab & 1/2 chessapeake retriever) puppy vaccinated for Lyme disease and were using frontline too. But after a day on the outer beach (we live on the cape) the "Lakota" starting limping on his front leg, we took that in stride as he was very active on the beach. The next day though he could not even stand up, I had to carry him from the upstairs bedroom to the truck to bring him to the vet. Anyway he had lyme disease and is being treated for it now. He seems to be fine. We live in the woods and the vet says he will most likely get the disease again, the vet bill was over $300. Does any body have any preventive measures I do not know of for preventing this disease to occur again and how to prevent my wife & I from catching it Looking forward to your comments.
Best regards, Jim

My Naturopath almost died from lyme. He had a full-blown MD practice which he could not keep going, then he was at a conference where another doctor told him "sounded like Lyme Disease". Now my doctor has a busy Naturopathic practice and treats people with Lyme, Aids, Cancer, common colds, etc. He amazes me. I will start his treatment next week with Silver Protien IV - 3 days per week, then Peroxide 1 day per week, and a "C" IV with B Shot twice per month. I take a special protein shake two times per day with a high-level of probiotics & L-Glutamine added. I've also learned that I need to be taking CoQ10, Acetyle L Carnitine + Alpha Lapoic Acid and some other things. Sure hope I am on the correct path ! ! !

It definitely isn't a stupid question and is something I am considering. I do take a supplement that helps with joints, but haven't consulted a holistic professional yet. I'm glad it helped you so much!

I hope this isn't a stupid question but have your tried the holistic route? I got very sick with Rheumatoid Arthritis in Dec. 2003.... it affected every joint in my body. I was in extreme agony. Could barely walk. I took Bextra for about 4 months until it was taken off the market, but was experimenting, at the same time, with acupuncture, herbs and supplements. My SED rate was 121. It is now normal (between 1 and 7) and I am probably 98% pain-free. I take a slew of herbs etc. but frankly I don't care. My rheumatologist is amazed at how well I was doing, after he predicted my hands etc. would be deformed if I didn't take Enbrel, which I refused to take.
He now tells other patients about me.

Something to consider, if you already haven't.

Best of luck.

Arlene,
I know how you feel about taking meds. I can't decide whether all the antibiotic side effects are worse than those of the disease. On the other hand, I am unable to work two days in a row without crippling pain. Keep me updated on how it goes for you.

I contacted Lyme disease in February, 2007, have gone through 2 series of antibiotics and still feel the joint pain today. The worst part is that there is no doctor that can definitively tell me that my tiredness, pains/dizziness etc are still from Lyme's or that it is something else. Nice to know there are others that understand! I hate to go back on another series of meds unless I have to. Trying to find alternative ways to cope..
